Troodon formosus

My version of the dinosaur Troodon. I tried to make Troodon look like a weird looking bird, as I like to imagine the last (millions of) years of the dinosaurs as a world with lots of strange birds. My model is quite simple and not as detailed as I might have liked, but I am very proud of how fast I was able to follow my step-by-step plan of recreating a dinosaur.

My final image of Troodon. I'm very happy with this render, as the process went very smoothly compared to my other works. I agree that it may look a bit too block-outey, but, looking at how quickly I got something I liked, I think that's fair.

The concept art I created for Troodon. Right from the start, my goal had always been to create a weird looking bird.

I made the blockout very rough, but I think it fitted with the idea of making the dinosaur look like a weird bird. Birds have lots of fat and feathers covering their delicate skeleton, so other than the limbs, I kept the blockout as simple as possible.

Since most of the body would be covered in feathers, I didn't spend any time on sculpting details.

The retopologized model was very optimized and consisted of only quads with a triangle count of 8542. This number includes things like claws and teeth, but, sadly, not the feathers.

This image is greatly inspired by Bakker's iconic drawing. I think the coat is a bit too furry and not as feathery as I would've liked, but other than that I think I really nailed a modern look for Bakker's revolutionary sketch.
