Stegoceras validum

Around half a year ago I read an article about the similarities in the tails of pachycephalosaurs and kangaroos. I absolutely love both groups of animals and I could not get the paper out of my head: whenever I looked at reconstructions of pachycephalosaurs, I kept feeling like I looked at an animal that is about to tumble over, so based on these newly discovered similarities I wanted to reiterate on my own old Stegoceras. I came across the existence of the article in Melanie During's "De Laatste Lente van de Dinosauriërs" (YES!! her book is actually in Dutch and it's the coolest thing ever!!) and the paper itself was published by D. Cary Woodruff, Ryan K. Schott and David C. Evans.

I had not touched Blender for a while, so when I came back I thought recreating my old Stegoceras would be perfect: I was familiar with the basic shapes, yet it was definitely challenging enough to learn a lot of new things. I really liked how kangaroo-like the fur turned out and I'm very proud of my perseverance. Stegoceras lived around 70 million years ago in what is now North America and the more I worked on this new reconstruction, the more I believed that it would have hopped and jumped around like a kangaroo. I really like that!
