Allosaurus fragilis

Allosaurus is generally refered to as "the other" dinosaur as it is easily overlooked when compared to Tyrannosaurus or Spinosaurus, but I have personally come to love this giant theropod. For example: did you know that Allosaurus did not really bite and grip, but that it would litterally slash and chop at its prey?! It must have been a ferocious monster, but, as I like to do, I tried to make my version as friendly and approachable as possible.

My version of Allosaurus fragilis! I had a lot of fun working on this epic dinosaur and I am very happy with how the process played out.

I was not able to regularly work on this project, but I am very happy that I was able to chop the project into manageable pieces.

By creating a 3D blockout of the skeleton I was able to make sure that my animal would be as scientificcally accurate as possible, but it also helped me with creating checkpoints.

The checkpoints ensure good quality of the final product, but they also make sure my quality of life is good.

I sometimes find it hard to move on to the next step of a process, but the 3D skeletal and muscular studies help me clear out what I have to do end make me feel comfortable enough to move on to the next step.

I am very happy with how the 3D blockout turned out and I plan on using as much of my Allosaurus bones and muscles as I realistically can in future projects.

I am very happy with how the sculpt turned out. I did not have that much time, so especially considering the time and effort that went into it, I think it is a very high quality sculpt.

I spent a lot of time on the toenails: I figured most of my future theropods could use similar nails, so I made sure to really go the extra mile and have an excellent starting point in future projects.

I used my Allosaurus as the base for its hatchlings, but I did make sure that the hatchlings were still very baby-like and not shrunk-down-dinosaur-like.
